The Immediate have split.

In a posting on their MySpace site the band wrote: "We're sad to announce that The Immediate is splitting up due to existential differences.

"We'd like to thank everyone who came to our shows and listened to In Towers & Clouds, everyone who loved or hated us, as well as anyone who helped us along the way... It's been a blast.

"Thank you, sincerely. We all still love each other. Regularly. Thankyou and goodnight, much love xx
Conor, Dave, Pete, Barra"

The news will come as a shock to fans and the widespread music community as the band had been one of the few Irish acts tipped to impact on the international stage.

Last year they released their critically acclaimed debut album In Towers And Clouds.

Their last gig was on Friday night when they played as part of the Trinity Ball.
